Message This isn't meant to be a write-up, just a review for anyone wanting to buy an inexpensive Consult interface. This interface has become available from a multitude of Ebay sellers. The price varies but you can find them at around $21 shipped for the interface, cable and a disc with a few of the popular trial/freeware software. This is a serial interface so if you don't have a serial out on your laptop you will need a USB to serial converter. I used a converter with the one I bought and had no problems using the interface with it. I found one Ebay seller that was actually selling these interfaces for $275. I looked at his selling history and someone had actually bought one for that price. Don't do that!

The interface.

The interface with the serial cable and my test adapter cable connected.

Now a word of warning. In order to get the consult plug to go into the socket I had to use some persuasion. As you can see in this picture, it caused the plastic socket to distort. I would not recommend trying to get this interface to plug into the consult connector by just finding your connector and attempting to push it in as the connector sits on the mounting bracket in your car. And actually, with the amount of force needed and having to insert one side first, I would only try to insert the consult plug if you are able to hold it in one hand while trying to get the interface side to go on. Because of the way the pins are so close to the tapered end on the interface socket, I think the best thing to do is probably just cut out the plastic on the interface tapered side of the socket. It took me a lot of effort to get the consult plug to go in. Luckily I had a few consult plugs laying around that I could use to get it started. This is another case of things not being made to proper specs out of China.

Some pictures of the internals.
